Halloween 2023: October 25ᵗʰ – Matchbox Creepy Cars & Haunted Castle

You’ve seen my articles about Bone Shaker, but a year before Hot Wheels unveiled his unholy skulliness, Matchbox released some Halloween goodies of their own. Click the pic and we’ll put the “die” back in die-cast!

This is yet another collection of pictures intended for an article that was never written. Which is a shame, really, because the images you see here mark the very beginning of my yearly hunt for Halloween cars. To the best of my recollection, this was the year I discovered that Hot Wheels and Matchbox were freaks like me.

I’m not going to say too much beyond this point. I’ll just let you enjoy going through these old photos like I did.

Not content to let their playsets do all the heavy lifting, Matchbox also released their Creepy Cars line. These were just Matchbox cars in scary plastic shells, which have got to be some of the most amazing designs ever made for Matchbox toys.

Unfortunately they filled them with mundane Matchbox vehicles which were in no way creepy. I bought several sets of Creepy Cars, and these same two vehicles were the ones in every set. But I got some Halloween use out of them after all; I put them in the candy bowl and let the trick-or-treaters have them.

The Hot Wheels people weren’t about to let Matchbox have all the Halloween fun, and released Halloween cars of their own.

’63 Impala and Insect Racer.

Black Widow and Wooa.

Screature Del Guido and Seymoor Creeps.

Highway Horror.

And now for today’s Skull Of The Day!

Today’s Skull Of The Day is my Bag O’ Tiny Skulls!

What do you do with 120 miniature plastic skulls? I don’t know, but whatever it is, I’m prepared. Come back tomorrow for more Halloween treats!
