Back in 2011, I had to work on Valentine’s Day. I worked the night shift alone; there wasn’t even a security guard in the building with me. I was hired remotely. None of my daytime counterparts had ever met nor so much as seen me. Yet someone knew I was going to be there, and was kind enough to remember me during the office Valentine’s Day celebration. When I got to work that night, sitting on a napkin in front of my keyboard was a delicious frosted heart sugar cookie. I was so surprised and touched to be remembered that I took this fuzzy flip phone pic. I just couldn’t believe it. I even left it sitting on my desk until well after lunch, just to enjoy looking at it for a while before I ate it. It may not seem like much, but this little token of consideration has stuck with me for the last fifteen years. If you have the chance, take the time to show someone a little Valentine’s thoughtfulness today. Even if it seems like nothing to you, your gesture of kindness may be something they remember for the rest of their life.
