Chris reviews Ghost Rider

ghostriderfrontend.jpgI'll be honest; I wasn't expecting much. Nicolas Cage as a fiery motorcycle demon who wreaks vengeance upon the wicked? I'm not buying it. Then again, the movie couldn't possibly have been as bad as the trailer made it out to be. To tell you the truth, I really didn't know what to expect. So what's the real scoop? Click the pic and I'll tell you all about it. And if you're good, maybe I'll even let you see Eva Mendes's nipples. You're welcome.

“That’s right, woodchuck-chuckers,
– it’s Groundhog Day!”

gdposter2.jpgOkay, campers, rise and shine, and don't forget your booties 'cause it's cold out there today. It's cold out there every day; what is this, Miami Beach? Not hardly! And you know you can expect hazardous travel later today with that, you know, that, uh, that blizzard thing. The National Weather Service is calling for a "big blizzard thing!" Yes, they are. But you know, there's another reason why today is especially exciting. The big question on everybody's lips, their chapped lips: do ya think Phil is gonna come out and see his shadow? Punxsutawney Phil! That's right, woodchuck chuckers, it's Groundhog Day! And to celebrate Groundhog Day in the best way we possibly can, The Sci-Fi Guys give to you our SALUTE TO TIME LOOPS!

Looking at the Total Saga

The Star wars TrilogyI found an essay about the Star Wars saga written by Keith Martin about looking at the original trilogy in light of the prequels. I found it to be a very enjoyable read and, regardless of your views of the prequels, it adds a few more shades of interest and illumination to scenes from A New Hope, which is to me one of the few redeeming qualities of the new trilogy - giving us a deeper understanding into the characters of the original trilogy by knowing where they've come from, how they all know each other and what their motives truly are.  I've reproduced the essay here entirely.

Q Reviews Fantastic Four, and there was much regret

The Fantastic FourI did it.  I went and watched this God-awful movie. You can take it at face value that the movie stinks out loud, or you can read the review for proof.  I don't see how anyone could have found this film redeeming and not been embarrassed by any association with it.

Chris is in love with Cars

mcqueen2.jpgThis movie is too good. Its too good not to love, its too good not to worship, its too good not to stare at for 116 minutes with a long glistening strand of drool hanging out of my mouth. Its just too damn good.

transformers-thumbnail.jpgSorry, really short on time and can't write up a full post. But, for those interested, here's the full TransFormers trailer (97MB!)… hopefully this doesn't leave Chris convulsing and whatnot.

Chris reviews The Transformers: The Movie, Part III

transformers-20th-thumbnail4.jpgThe third and final installment of Chris's ridiculously lengthy review of this 80s cartoon classic, in which Chris receives counseling from the dark god Unicron, who helps Chris get past his issues so he can finally review the damn DVDs. If you love watching giant robots kill each other with antimatter missiles and hypersonic space-lasers, click the pic. If not, then you probably didn't understand the situation.

Quentin reviews Underworld: Evolution and X-Men 3

Okay, so I haven't seen a single movie this year - I've been preparing for a wedding, which is another way of saying "busy and broke".  Finally, last night, Vickie and I got to rent some movies.  I kept with the spirit of the holidays and stuck with a "freaks" theme: Gothy Freaks (Underworld: Evolution), Cool Freaks (X-Men 3: The Last Stand) and Dead Freaks (Corpse Bride).

Chris reviews Bram Stoker’s Dracula

bram-stokers-dracula-halloween-thumbnail.jpgI saw this movie on a rack full of other Halloween DVDs for $10, and I was so psyched. I grabbed it, remembering that it was good, remembering how much I liked it way back in 1992. After watching it again, I can't imagine what the hell I'm remembering, because this movie sucks more than (insert your own vampire pun here).

Sci-Fi Movie News

Star Trek XI Poster The Q is in effect! Ho-ah, let's get up to date on some Sci-Fi movie news.   While there are other movies that I'm more interested in telling you guys about, by my contract with Chris (written in the blood of virgins, which I'm sure you can guess costs a lot) the first movie news bit I have for you is the old Sci-Fi standard, Star Trek.

The Return of the Q

Stan Bush PictureHey guys, sorry I've been gone for so long… went away for a week to get hitched and Google buys YouTube and North Korea becomes a nuclear power.  That said, I'm not taking any more vacations for a while!

So, directly stolen from my favorite movie news site Dark Horizons here are a couple links that might just make Chris quiver and Dare to Touch himself.

beowulf-02_thumbnail.jpgWay back on July 24, Sci-Fi-Guys.com became the 10th website chosen as part of the Beowulf Webmaster Program in support of the upcoming Beowulf movie from director Robert Zemeckis. Why didn't I mention this before? Well, I kinda forgot…

Balthazar Is Coming!

Balthazar is coming, and he knows what you want.

What is this? A car? No, this is not just a car, friends. You might call it a Transformer.

That’s right! Say hello to Bumblebee from the upcoming Transformers movie. He’s based on the 2008/2009 Chevrolet Camaro concept.

Chris reviews Superman Returns

shield-small.jpg It had a lot to live up to, and a lot of people were just dying for it to fail. The verdict? Its good. It’s real good. Although it did have its flaws, I was not disappointed.

Chris reviews X-Men: The Last Stand

99m cropped.jpgJesus H. Tapdancing Christ, what a letdown. What a disappointment. From a Storm that was there only to change outfits, to a Famke Janssen who wasn’t beautiful, this movie seemed DESIGNED to make me cry. Join me here to mourn the loss of a once superb franchise…

Mrs. X reviews Night Watch: ИOCHИOI DOZOR

night_watch-thumb.jpgDo you like vampires? Do you like monsters? Do you like blood and guts? Do you like going to the movies and reading subtitles because the movie is in a foreign language? If you said yes to any or all of these questions, then Ночной Дозор (Night Watch: ИOCHИOI DOZOR, for those of you who don’t speak Russian) is one you should run right out and see.

Dan reviews Mission: Impossible: III

mi3.jpg

“We are all well aware of the fact that Tom Cruise is a fucking whack job… With that in mind I would love to tell you Mission: Impossible: III was such a craptastic waste of celluloid, I wouldn’t even use the reel of film to wipe my ass… But I can’t.”

We fall for Lucas’s Banana in the Tailpipe

Star Wars TrilogyThat rat bastard. That swindler. Is nothing sacred? How about a little honesty with your fans, you no-necked has-been. What’s got me so upset? George Lucas is releasing the original Star Wars Trilogy on DVD. The original, unaltered, non-Special-Edition, Han Shoots First, original trilogy, once referred to as the Immaculate Trilogy. The one thing fans have wanted since the DVD medium was introduced, he’s finally going to deliver. So why am I so upset?

Q’s Geek Reputation Saved By Serenity

serenity logo small“…I knew that I had to see Serenity. My geek credentials were on the line, and in a very real danger of being revoked. Finally, due to a few extraordinary events at home, I found myself at the movie rental place du jour and there was Serenity. I had no choice but to take it home.”

Chris reviews The Matrix: Reloaded

big3.jpgIs the second Matrix movie really the worst movie ever made? I don’t know; I refuse to watch the third one. Click the pic for my fair and balanced review of this steaming pile.
