Being locked in medievalism and Stone Age thinking has nothing to do with the level of technology you live with, nor how rich you are, nor how many laws and lawyers you have in your society. It's something you carry around with you in your head. It's something that chains you to the past and allows you to justify atrocities. Here in the States, for the most part, this man would be seen for what he is: a charlatan, mostly harmless, and a liar best ignored. There they elevate him to the status of a super villain, charge him with the crime of using his "magic," and chop his head off. What a modern, forward thinking culture! And I'm supposed to respect these people and their backwards, intolerant, extremist religion as if they were members of a valid and enlightened society? Really? Well, fuck that. I know medieval behavior when I see it. Barbarians didn't even act this base. I would suggest that Saudi Arabians teach their children to examine their culture through the lens of other religious based movements throughout history, such as the Spanish Inquisition and the Holocaust, but that would probably be blasphemous and cause the parents to have to stone their children to death before they themselves were burned alive or drawn and quartered for being witches who can see into the past.
